Friendsville Real Estate

Founded by the Quakers from New Garden, North Carolina who settled in the area around the 1790’s.  The town is still home to Friends Meetinghouse.

In the 19th Century, the Quakers wielded considerable influence in Blount County and were partially responsible for the abolitionist movements arising in the county in the years leading up to the Civil War.  I have learned that Friendsville along with nearby Greenback andmaybe Cades Cove provided a stop on the Underground Railroad.  I’m told that the Meetinghouse was stocked with provisions by the Quakers to provide for fugitive slaves and soldiers going to join the Union Army.

There are approximately 900 people residing in Friendsville, approximately 365 households.  Friendsville has a K-5 school which was formerly the High School.

Friendsville is located in Western Blount County along State Route 333 and stretches from Fort Loudon Lake to Hwy 321. According to the Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3 square miles.
